surprising (to me at least!) things about having a baby...

I'm a huge researcher. And worrier. And I'll just throw this out there, Google is not my friend when I have any sort of aliment. Therefore, I try to read anything and everything I can to know anything and everything about whatever I am wondering about. Before I had Everly, I was always flipping through a baby book - sidebar: thanks but no thanks for the advice What To Expect When You're Expecting...you should be titled What to Expect But Will Not Happen and Instead You'll Waste Precious Time and Energy Worrying About The Worst Case Scenarios When You're Expecting (and I digress. The book has some good info. But it was not THE book I would say every pregnant woman should read. There are several out there that are way better!) So if I wasn't flipping through a book, I was browsing websites and blogs or always asking friends questions about labor, recovery, baby items, and just baby stuff in general. I wanted to know everything because I hate the unknown. Because quite frankly, after our childbirth class, the thought of delivering a baby terrified me. I felt informed but still nervous. Thankfully, I survived to tell the tale and am happy to report that I was pleasantly surprised with how well I handled everything especially since we were thrown into the whirlwind by Everly deciding to arrive six weeks early...

1. the return to pre-pregnancy weight and size: I read several articles, talked to a lot of friends, and saw plenty of post-baby pictures (both at the hospital and of families at home) that led me to believe it would be weeks, possibly months, before I would be wearing pants with zippers again let alone my own pre-pregnancy pants with zippers. Of course, the first few days at the hospital after having Everly and when I stayed there in the NICU with her, I lived in yoga pants and sweats. Comfort is key those first few days - especially when hanging out in the hospital. But imagine my surprise when I got brave and tried on a pair of skinny jeans I had (because as I told Jordan, "I just want to see how much work I have cut out for me...") and they fit. Not only fit, but fit comfortably! I stepped on the scale for the first time a week after Everly was born and was only 9 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight and a month after, I am back down to my pre-pregnancy weight. It helped how in shape and toned I was before getting pregnant combined with how active I was while pregnant. I walked EVERYDAY no less than 5 miles and some days up to 8 miles. I never let being pregnant be an excuse from staying active and I always let it be an excuse to eat extra fruits and vegetables. I will definitely be rocking my two-piece swim suit still next summer!

2. stretch marks: speaking of two-piece swim suits, stretch marks are a funny thing and they say a lot of it is based on genetics. If you're wondering if you'll get them, ask your mom. Typically, "they" (whoever "they" are anyway) say that no amount of lotion or creams or fancy clothes or whatever will keep stretch marks away...the lotion and cream will just help your skin to feel moisturized and not make it as itchy. So of course I turned to my mom who said she got stretch marks and still has them so I was fully prepared to get them myself. I lotioned myself up morning and night anyway with cocoa butter and never got even the smallest hint of a stretch mark. Of course, I'm sure this would be a different story if I had gone full-term with Everly because I could tell my skin and stomach were feeling pretty tight those last few days. So I'll be interested to see if I make it stretch mark free the next time I'm pregnant.. But to those women that did get stretch marks, embrace them because you created a life and lived through it. And that is a beautiful thing.

3. the epidural: I had always told myself and Jordan, "I'm not going into the hospital or labor and getting an epidural right away. I'm going to try and last as long as I can without one and maybe do the whole thing without it entirely." Jordan was fully prepared to help me through labor thanks to the techniques and everything we had learned from our class and I had some breathing/relaxation techniques for myself to work through while contracting. Thankfully, when we got to the hospital I was already 4cm dilated and my labor progressed so quickly, that by the time I was ready to start dropping F bombs and was ready to throw in the towel, I was almost 7cm dilated when I finally caved and asked for the epidural. And honestly, contracting while trying to hold still and stay in the "curled shrimp shape" was significantly worse than the actual needle and epidural placement itself. I was more focused on holding still and breathing so the doctor could get it over with so I could get back up and have some water then catch my breath.

4. labor pains: Like I've said, I was one of the lucky ones who had a very quick labor and who went to the hospital already in active labor. I didn't have to be induced or hooked up to an IV and monitors allllll day, or have any interventions to help my labor progress. Contractions are painful, yes. But Jordan and my midwife helped talk me through them and would remind me, "just take it one contraction at a time." Between each one, I would try to relax and drink some water....and not stare at the monitor in anticipation of the next one coming. Once it came time to push, my adrenaline definitely took over combined with the epidural's help, because I mainly only felt a lot of pressure like I was going to poop on the table (and thankfully, I didn't haha). I didn't have any sort of shot or extra numbing "down there" either so maybe I have a higher pain tolerance than I thought. And it helps that Everly was head down and had been since about 28 weeks so she was already locked and loaded in prime birthing position and her small size helped as well.

5. bleeding: yes, there will be blood. But not in the amounts that the books and blogs that I had read made it seem like. I was expecting a lot more honestly, like in the amount that I'd wonder if I even had any left in my body, so I was surprised at how it really wasn't that bad or that much. Just like a really heavy period for the first day or two, for me at least, and then just a normal spotty period after that for about 7-10 days. I didn't have to wear the gigantic middle school style maxi pads for long which was a plus because it isn't very enjoyable to feel (and sound!) like you're wearing a diaper yourself while taking care of your own baby...

6. after labor pains: again, thanks to the reading and research I did, I had prepared myself for the worst and thought I would be walking bow-legged and not able to sit comfortably for weeks. Turns out I was up walking around, hugging people, and laughing like normal within 2 hours after having Everly. The worst pain was the cramping while breastfeeding and pumping. I had been warned about that but didn't expect it to be that bad but it was still bearable...I had been told it was a "good sign" if you were crampy while breastfeeding and that would help the uterus to go down to it's regular size quicker. The little squirt water bottle and witch hazel pads the hospital supplied me with were also a huge help. Along with the pain meds my nurse gave me. I only took them (tylenol and ibuprofen) for the first 3-4 days after delivery and then didn't have any after that. I'd say I bounced back quicker than I thought I would but I think a part of that had to do with living in the NICU with Everly and that I had mentally blocked out my own pain because I needed to be mentally present and physically aware of her needs and helping her get home sooner that I didn't have time to "be in pain and recover." I was definitely uncomfortable at times those first few days but seeing my baby and holding her really makes it all go away and worth it all like everyone always says.

7. breastfeeding: I was signed up to take a breastfeeding class the second week of September...obviously Jordan and I didn't make it to that. So I was all sorts of nervous about breastfeeding because that was one of the things I hadn't done much reading or researching on yet since I figured we would have the class to get information from! Thankfully, I had some awesome nurses that gave me all sorts of advices, tips, and support those first few days. Everly latched on right away and we haven't looked back. It is a weird feeling but not a painful one...but it is a really awesome feeling looking at my baby and knowing that she is gaining weight because of me and the milk I'm providing for her. It is crazy to think that's all she is eating and how much I am helping her out by giving her breast milk!

8. engorgement: speaking of breastfeeding, engorgement is no joke. While at the hospital, they recommended I pump every 3-4 hours to help increase my supply and to give stimulation to encourage a good supply. I remember the first few days only pumping 10-15mL total and thinking I had accomplished a lot...then one morning, I woke up with rock hard boobs. And pumped almost 3oz total. And now I look back on that and laugh because there are times in a day now when I can pump 12oz total and yes that is in one sitting! My family jokes that I am a human milk machine and I'm starting to believe it...in less than 6 weeks, I have over 400oz of frozen breast milk stored and ready for when I go back to my internship. Thankfully, the initial engorgement period doesn't last for long and I get why some women give up on breastfeeding then and there. Because that makes it hurt! But it only ever hurts and feels like that now if I go too long between feedings or pumping without doing something about it...which means it's usually time to feed or pump again. If Everly doesn't wake up crying and ready to eat, then my boobs wake me up saying it's time to eat or pump!

9. going with the flow of (unplanned) things: I like to consider myself a huge planner. I like to have things lined up, ready to go, and be organized. And no matter how much you can plan for your baby's birth, you can't plan for the unexpected. Babies come when they are ready to, and that can mean a few weeks early, right on time, or even a week late. Usually if they're an early arrival, that means (in our case at least), that some decisions that have to be made at the hospital haven't really been decided upon or made yet. Like, do to the eye cream or to not do the eye cream? To delay cord clamping for 2 minutes or clamp right away? To have the baby get the Vitamin K shot right away or wait 24 hours? There are a lot of important decisions that parents have to make for their baby shortly after delivery and if the decisions aren't made by the parents, then the medical staff will make those decisions for the parent and baby. Since Everly was taken to the NICU within 10 minutes after she was born, Jordan and I didn't have the option to make a lot of choices. I had wanted to do delay cord clamping but since she was born so early and was small, we didn't have that option. I didn't want to do the eye cream right away but since she was in the NICU (and we didn't clarify a few things ahead of time), the nurses did that and gave her antibiotics right away anyway. And all of that was okay with me. Because at that moment, I trusted our medical team and that they were making the best decisions for my baby when I wasn't there to make those decisions for her. I learned quickly in those first few days that when it comes to having a baby, you have to just go with the flow of the unplanned things and trust that everything will have a way of working itself out for the best.

10. the instant love I felt when I first saw Everly: in one word, it was indescribable. I couldn't even cry because I felt so overwhelmed with love, happiness, and joy. It took a few minutes for the tears which even surprised me, but they were the happiest tears I have ever cried. I have never felt more proud to say, "it's a girl!" and to look at Jordan and tell him he has a daughter. Those first few moments the three of us had together will forever be in my memory and one that no one or nothing can ever take away. I didn't ever know I could feel a love like this until now. It's like a part of me and my heart had never been touched and now it is open and overflowing with love and happiness. I could just stare at her all day long in between snuggling and loving on her. Everly is the greatest thing I have ever created and she is the biggest blessing in our lives. Everything in the post, the good, the bad, and the ugly (and painful), was 100% worth it all. Because at the end of it all, we have an incredibly beautiful and strong, healthy baby girl.

what this weekend was supposed to look like...

Everly isn't even a week old yet and already there's been several times where Jordan and I have said, "oh shoot, we aren't going to be able to this/go to that because the baby is here now!" And this weekend is one of those times. Tomorrow is our good friends Ryan and Alyson's wedding in Chicago! Jordan is a groomsmen so we were going to be heading there today for the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner then enjoy all the wedding festivities tomorrow. Since I'm living in the NICU currently with our baby, the plans have changed! And I know this will be the first of many times that our plans change because of Everly...and I'm totally okay with that. Thankfully our friends are awesome and totally understand and they were even planning on Jordan not making it to the wedding at all and were just going to rearrange some things with the bridal party. I know he is bummed to be leaving me and Everly all weekend but I'm glad at least he can be there to stand up by his close friend and be part of their special day. In the meantime, Everly and I will continue to hang out with my mom, doing some crafting, and watch some chick flicks! Happy wedding weekend Ryan and Alyson! I hope you have a beautiful day and I can't wait to see pictures!

Friday Funnies - 6.21.13

Well it's finally Friday and we have another fun-filled and busy weekend ahead of us! My good friend Leah will be here in a little bit so I'm really excited to get to see her and hang out because it has been far too long since we've been together! And then tomorrow I have a bridal shower for my friend Alyson who is engaged to Jordan's really close friend who he grew up with, Ryan! We are really looking forward to their wedding in September even though I will be 8ish months pregnant...it will still be a great time! And on Sunday, Jordan and I are Godparent's to Lucie and she is getting baptized! Whewww lots of action and lots of family time plus seeing some old friends...should be a great time all around and I'm ready for it! Thankfully I haven't been feeling too exhausted lately and am still able to enjoy all of these get togethers with everyone! Hopefully you all enjoy your weekend and make time for some relaxing and lounging!

Friday Funnies - 5.17.13

Finals week is officially over and that means that I am done with school, whoo hoo!!! This weekend is going to be one that's filled with celebrations, good times with friends, and a few goodbyes. I feel like I've been avoiding it all week but now I know the time has finally come and it's time to say goodbye to a few of my close friends as they move to start their internships. It's such an exciting time and I know they'll all have awesome summers, I will definitely miss them! That's why we are going to be doing plenty of celebrating tonight and tomorrow.... of course, as much celebrating as I can do at 5 months pregnant! It's a relief to be done with school and I'm so thankful for having such a supportive husband, family, and friends who all constantly encouraged me and motivated me as I made my way through each class. I'd be nothing without these awesome people in my life today! Here's to a fun weekend of celebrating and looking forward to the future! Happy Graduation to all the graduates and enjoy this weekend!

Friday Funnies - 3.1.13

It's March! It's National Craft Month! And daylight savings is coming back soon! So that means Spring is in the air and that makes me so, sooo happy! Eeeek! And it's Friday so that makes today just that much better all around! Not much on the schedule for this weekend besides a fun gathering planned with some friends tomorrow night! Should be another fun and relaxing weekend before the snow comes back in full force on Monday and Tuesday. Like I said before, is it Spring yet?! Come on groundhog, you didn't see your shadow so bring on the sunny Spring days! Let's get laughing and have a wonderful weekend!

Hahahaha!! yes I would be!

And turns out I'm guilty of saying all of these....all the time.

Dance Marathon 19: Another Year, Another Miracle.

$1,529,650.19!!!!
FOR THE KIDS!!!!

Dance Marathon is a truly inspiring, amazing, incredible and simply remarkable organization. Each year it grows bigger and gets better. This past year I have had the wonderful privilege of working at the U of I Children's Hospital as a Child Life Assistant so I have gotten to meet several of the newly diagnosed patients and families as they start their journey to battle childhood cancer and join the Dance Marathon family. It is not a journey any family and child should ever have to join but I am grateful they have DM and that I am able to be there to help support all of them and form relationships with them and be there through it all. Being reunited with my closest friends that I have met over the past six years through DM and seeing some of the bravest, strongest and most inspiring kids (and their families!) made my heart so, so happy. The atmosphere of DM gave me chills and a smile I couldn't wipe off my face. Hearing the list of names of those children who have earned their angel wings brought tears to my eyes and a sadness in my heart that I can't explain. And it made me remember why we were there and do what we do and why each year this beautiful organization gets bigger and bigger. We have to keep fighting the good fight. Day in and day out. For those kids who are still fighting. For those kids who will have to start fighting tomorrow. And for those kids who won their fight and are dancing for life in our hearts.
Make a difference and make a miracle.
Remember, it is all FOR THE KIDS.

Friday Funnies - 2.1.13

It's Friday, what what?!! And it is DM Friday at that! And a Cross Family reunion, whoop whoop! I have an internship on Monday morning at Comer Children's Hospital so we are making a big round trip home from Madison with a pit stop in Chicago and then next Wednesday, I have a phone interview with a hospital in Texas! Less than two weeks until the official offer day so I need some good laughs and family/friend time to relieve some stress and anxiety about all of that! So let's get laughing! Dance Marathon is all For The Kids so this week's Friday Funnies is dedicated to some silly (and inspiring!) kids. Hope you all have a fantastic weekend and one that is full of love and laughter!

2013: Happy New Year's!

Happy New Year from The Easton's!
Wow, it is now officially 2013! Last year was quite the year for us with several highlights and in our Christmas letter this year, we picked our Top 5 moments from 2012 so here's a recap:

1. Our wedding! It was the perfect day and the best party ever! A great way to start off our marriage!
2. Jordan’s bachelor party in Vegas and my bachelorette party in the Wisconsin Dells! Both were filled with partying and good times…and like they say, what happens there stays there!
3. Honeymoon cruise! Beautiful ocean views, fun adventures and lots of laughs together!
4. Donating $400 to the University of Iowa Dance Marathon! We dedicated the Dollar Dance at our wedding to raise money For The Kids and are thankful to those who helped us with this donation!
5. Kicking off Iowa football season in Chicago with both our families! Katie’s parents flew from Texas and Jordan’s family made the drive from Iowa. Hopefully the Hawks have a better season next year!

I am so excited to be starting this year off with Jordan by my side as my husband. We watched our wedding video earlier with happy tears in my eyes and lots of laughs as we reminisced about our past year that we had. We are incredibly lucky with the many opportunities each of us have received and for the wonderful family and friends we have in our lives. This year will prove to be one full of the unknowns, challenges and hopefully a lot of triumph and I'm excited to tackle it with my best friend. Happy New Year everyone and here's to a year for of love and laughter for all of you!

it wouldn't be a party without a hat for Paisley!
Paisley, the partied out pup!
and that's a wrap!

the last wedding (of 2012!)

We survived another whirlwind wedding weekend with all of our friends and it was another awesome time together. The ceremony took place at a beautiful old Catholic church and the reception was held at an equally beautiful ballroom venue. It was perfect for a winter wedding and everything looked amazing. Especially my hubs while he was all decked out in his tux being an usher and sang the couple's first dance song. The reception was an absolute blast full of dancing, drinks and desserts. It was incredible. The drive home wasn't too bad either...especially coming home to watch the Vikings game and their big win to send them into playoffs! Whoo whoo, go Vikes! Now we are just looking forward to celebrating New Year's and having a few more days of vacation before work and school start up again!

all the girls dolled up and ready for the wedding!

Friday Funnies - 12.28

Yes, it is another Friday Funny AND the last one of the year!!!! Before I get to the funnies, I have an announcement to make: today marks the three year anniversary when Jordan and I started dating! Who knew that three years ago when he overheard me complaining in the Dance Marathon office and three nights of studying together for finals would lead to the life we now have together?! And this afternoon we are heading to Chicago for our friend Kev and Mandi's wedding, another DM couple! Jordan is an usher and singing their first dance song plus we get to see a lot of friends all reunited so it should be a fun weekend together! I hope everyone has a fun and relaxing weekend after the holiday madness and rush of the season....or if you are traveling somewhere for New Year's Eve, have a great weekend celebrating and safe travels!

Life At Sea on the Carnival Destiny!

our first official Cruise picture!
all aboard the Carnival Destiny!
Carnival cruise line, you did it again. I went on a cruise 10ish years ago with my family and remembered having an awesome time and fun running around on the boat with my brother and sister and touring the islands with my family. I knew when Jordan and I booked our cruise that we would (obviously!) have a completely different trip but still the same amazing and rewarding experience. And we definitely did just that! I have told several people since our trip that if you're looking for a VERY budget-friendly and cost-effective vacation that includes a lot of EVERYTHING, then a cruise is the perfect choice! We couldn't have been happier with our vacation because we got the combination of perfect sunny skies and weather every day mixed with warm temperatures, fun adventure excursions, the beach, the ocean and countless views, funny entertainment and delicious food! It really was the best decision for us and a wonderful vacation to celebrate our marriage and escape from the world for awhile after a stressful semester!

Anyway! Back to the actual cruise itself to sum up our honeymoon recaps...not that I want to admit that our trip is over and I am out of things to talk about from the trip (but not really...I just don't want to keep boring you all, ha!) but we do have plenty of other things coming up and happening soon that I will be blogging on! The first day of the cruise we got through security super fast and were on board before we knew it with a drink in hand so vacation had officially started!

full shot of the top deck with the Miami skyline as we were leaving the port
ready for vacation to start!
We spent the afternoon touring the boat and checking out all of the hang out zones and where we would be spending our week. We unpacked our bag in our room, got settled in and then headed to the top deck to enjoy some drinks, dancing and celebrate setting sail! We roamed through the casino which turned out to be torture for Jordan each time but at least the one time we sat down to play, we won $30 and walked away so it paid off! We went to a comedy show and "game show mania" the first night then after dinner, headed back to the top deck to finish the night off by watching The Notebook on the big seaside theater. Yay for chick flick night and a husband who actually likes chick flicks!

our room...we picked it ourselves because of 11
Jordan loving the Christmas decorations!
"it wasn't over....it still isn't over!!"
one of the best chick flicks around!
The next day, we had a day at sea which meant a day spent in the sun while napping, reading and straight up relaxing with not a single worry in the world! It was perfect weather with clear skies. I can't say it enough how perfect the weather was all week while we were on vacation! Since it was Sunday, that meant NFL Sunday Football games so when the boat announced they would be showing two games on the big screen, Jordan was pretty stoked for that. Seriously, laying out AND watching football?! Sign me up! It was also the fancy formal night at dinner so after a day of sun, we got to dress up for the evening and enjoy feeling elegant! We went to another entertainment show then watched the football game and called it a night since we knew we had an early morning the next day with our stop in Jamaica!

one of my favorite pictures of us together from the trip.
love you Mr. E

The next two days were our days at the islands which left us with one full day at sea on Wednesday before we made it back to the mainland. Surprisingly, the week did not fly by which we were both pleasantly surprised about because I thought for sure the week was going to fly by in the blink of an eye. We spent our last full day at sea by getting in everything that we had been wanting to do throughout the week! We bought our photos along with a Carnival shot glass and a big fin Christmas ornament to commemorate our special trip together! Of course the day wouldn't have been complete without a couple of hours laying out in the sun so we did that as well to get a few more rays in before heading home to the cold winter weather! Since it was so close to the holidays, the boat was all decorated for Christmas with fancy trees and wreaths/garland every where which was beautiful! The last night they had a big holiday show and played ELF and White Christmas on the sea side theater. It was the perfect way to end the last night on our cruise and get us back in the holiday spirit to head home for Christmas!

isn't that dress the most perfect dress for a cruise and sunny vacation?!
Thanks Gordmans for the great deal!

now that's love.

while on vacation...perfect!
last morning so it was time to enjoy one last delicious breakfast
and mimosa before saying goodbye to the boat!
good bye cruise! We loved you!

And there it is...our whole vacation! We had the trip of a lifetime and are so grateful and thankful for the help of my family especially along with several other family members and friends who helped to send us on this trip! It was a beyond amazing experience that we got to share with one another and I think proof that we could handle being on The Amazing Race together as a team (that is, if Janelle let's Jordan be my teammate although I would happily take either of them as my teammate even though I'm sure the two of them together would dominate...is there anyway we can do a team of three?!!) Anyway! We loved every minute of it and are happy to still have a golden tan and enough memories and pictures to last us a lifetime. Here's to many more amazing vacations in the future for us...and possibly the kids if we decide to be that crazy and let them join us! We already would love to go on another cruise with some couples so that I can enjoy laying out and some fruity drinks with the girls while Jordan and the guys enjoy some beers and gambling in the casino! All in all, it was an incredible nine days and I couldn't have asked for a better vacation with a more perfect husband to spend it with!

Friday Funnies - 11.30

Today is the last day of November. I have so many blessings in my life and I am thankful for each and every one of them. I'm thankful for my family and friends, Jordan and Paisley, my education, the roof over my head and food in our cupboards, my job and my car, and all of the awesome families and kiddos I get to meet and interact with each week. Just to name a few things.... To sum it up, I have a wonderful life and am truly lucky for everyone and everything that I have in it. Now let's celebrate the fact that it is Friday and time to relax for the weekend!! Also, today is officially my one year blog-iversary!!! Can I get a hell yeah for sticking with it for one year and sharing all of our highs and lows with you all?! I can't wait to see what the next year will bring us but I am sure it will be entertaining either way! Be sure to unwind and laugh a little this weekend even if you have to work!

Friday Funnies - 11.9

Whoo whoo another week down and wouldn't ya know, it looks like we have some awesome weather lined up for this weekend!! Jordan and I got tickets for the Iowa football game this weekend so we're pretty pumped about that as well...it's supposed to be mid-60s and we get to spend the day at Kinnick watching our Hawks! There are few things better than that so hopefully the Hawks pull out a big win for us to watch! If not, well, I'm sure we'll have a great time tailgating at least because some of our closest friends will be back in town again. Yay for visits from friends! Hope everyone had a good week and an even better weekend. Now, let's get laughing!

I know I am not the only person to think of Scar whenever you are told "Be prepared!"
These construction signs should actually have his picture on them...just think of how serious people would actually take them!

Thankful For November

Ah it's November already! Holy crap, can you believe it?!! I know that I definitely can't! With November, comes Thanksgiving, the start of many gatherings with family and friends and also that wonderful thankful/loving/giving/caring and sharing feeling that everyone starts to have. And it always makes me wonder...why don't we act that way year round towards everyone including strangers? Why is it just the "holiday spirit" that makes us more generous, more thoughtful and more caring? I know during the rest of the year we all get busy and caught up in our own lives everyday but I think it's important for people to take a step back from time to time and realize how much a random act of kindness could mean to someone else, whether it's someone they know or a complete stranger. So with that, I'm going to kick off the month of November by recognizing something that I'm thankful for each and every day. Today I am thankful for my awesome parents because without them, I literally would not be here today. But because of them, I am who I am today. They helped shape me and taught me to be independent, responsible, caring, giving, and respectful. They have always encouraged me and supported me, been there for me when I was wrong and gave me direction again. I can count on them as a friend but know they're always there for me as a parent. I owe them more than they know and hope my own kids look up to me as much I do to them. I'd be lost without them and love them both so much. Alright November, you're about to make my heart feel really full!

We had the most amazing weekend and got to witness a truly beautiful and incredible wedding ceremony between our close friends, Jared and Heather. The sun was shining and the wind held off so it made for a perfect fall afternoon to watch them exchange their vows outside with all the fall colors, sounds and smells surrounding them. Seeing Jared cry as he watched his bride make her way to him down the aisle was enough to get me choked up but once they started reciting their own vows they each wrote, well, that really made me (and every other guest there, besides Jordan) turn on the waterworks. Their love for each other that they share is so evident and it shined through in every aspect of their wedding--from their vows to the songs and readings all the way to the speeches their families and friends gave about them and to the way they looked at each other while dancing. We had a blast celebrating with them and with all of our closest friends! Jordan and I are so lucky to have such awesome people in our lives who encourage us to show the same sort of love and respect to one another like what we witnessed on Saturday. It was a magical day filled with family and friends, one heck of a party and mounds of love and laughter! Here's to your happily ever after, Mr. and Mrs. Bogue! Congrats! :)

October coming in hot!

It's Monday and it's a new month...rabbit rabbit, October is here folks! And what a great weekend we had to kick off this fabulous month! I would have recapped about it yesterday but I felt the need to give one last plug about September being Childhood Cancer Awareness month because let's be honest, that's 1000000x more important than the drunken chaos we caused over the weekend! But let's recap away:

My good friend Caputo got to town on Thursday night so we stayed up late chatting and giggling like girls always do when they're with their friends and slept in late Friday morning. After going to lunch and doing some shopping for some of her family members for new Iowa gear, we came back to our place to lounge. We quickly realized that there was a day long marathon of Say Yes To The Dress on and well, after we realized that, it was a done deal. We were committed to the couch and recliner for the rest of the day! The rest of the crew didn't show up until 7:30 and Jordan was gone working until 9:00.....the best part of it all was we got a notice on the TV screen that said "Going into energy save mode due to inactivity of 4 hours." Yes, that means that we didn't even touch the remote for 4 HOURS! We just can't resist a good TLC marathon of SYTTD! Once everyone got here, we had a few cold ones, got all dolled up and hit the town. Of course, by hit the town, we went to Brother's and only Brother's. We met up with several other people and had a great time. Lots of dancing, lots of laughing and not so much drinking because we wanted to keep it somewhat together so we could make it to tailgating early in the morning!

Saturday morning rolled around and we all woke up to ACDC's Back In Black...it wouldn't be a Hawkeye Saturday without waking up to their intro theme song! Once we all pulled it together, we headed to Melrose Madness to enjoy some good ol' tailgating Hawkeye Style! I love the atmosphere of gameday in Iowa City and I don't think it will ever get old to me! Unfortunately, I had to go to work for the afternoon so it was a tame tailgating morning for me and I went to work for a few hours....but when I got back, the game still had half left so I caught up pretty quick to everyone! Turns out everyone tailgated all day long for the whole game...and then some! And the Hawks won which made it an even more exciting Homecoming weekend! Way to kick off the conference play and start with a win Iowa! We all made the trip back to our place, crashed and napped but then since we were all recharged, we started round 2. And what other way to start it off than by doing a Game Day powerhour and a Disney powerhour?! We got loud. We got rowdy. And we got out of control. But we didn't get any knocks on our door from neighbors and no one got injured. We had a riot and thinking of 13 adults all screaming out the name of the Disney movie as the powerhour clip would change still makes me laugh. Man, we have some awesome friends.

We wrapped up the weekend by making breakfast on Sunday morning and all lounging and recovering watching some NFL football. One by one, our friends had to leave but at least we know we'll all be reunited at the end of this month for our close friend's Jared and Heather's wedding....can't wait! All in all, what an awesome, entertaining and fun loving weekend. It's weekend's like this that make Jordan and I so thankful for joining Dance Marathon because that's where we met all of our closest friends and the ones who were here with us this weekend! Already anxiously awaiting our next reunion at the end of the month!

ready for a night out on the town with my girls!
